The Department of Education Cultures of Collaboration

Summary of project
The Department of Education (DET) commissioned a Cultures of Collaboration project requiring the production of a comprehensive suite of learning products, incorporating both digital and hardcopy media. The packages’ purpose was to support the Northern Territory’s human resources department in informing teachers of the expectations of rural and remote placements. This specifically involved the teaching of cross cultural collaboration techniques and issues that new teachers could expect in their remote roles.
It was particularly important that this learning package was accessible and effective for teachers and schools in remote communities. The project was wholly managed by Captovate, who together with DET’s cultural advisor brought together a variety of partners to develop the cultural content.
Summary of project
The content of the course featured scenario based learning. Through using video’s stories, where the user was able to be part of real life situations in remote schools, the courseware encouraged users to explore the reasons why complications occurred between parties of different cross cultural backgrounds.
Visual examples:
The course also incorporated sections on reflecting on how cultures are formed, and what different morals and ethics are developed as a result of a person’s background and environment. This includes creating traditional storylines as animations.
